Trying To Be Grateful

It has been a really rough week, and I have gotten kind of crabby.  Tonight I’m throwing a 30th birthday party for my husband….well, sort of.  We scheduled it for 2 weeks ago but no one could come.  If you throw a party and no one comes, is it really a party?  So we’re doing it tonight, and I think we might only have 3 couples come…..so I am tired, emotionally drained, and have a very messy house to clean and food to make.

So, what do you do when you are in a bad mood?  Play Pandora really loud, and try to be thankful while you clean.  So here is what I’m thankful for this morning:

I’m thankful my son can cook his own hotdogs, even if he never puts away the grill.  It makes lunchtime easier. I’m thankful he likes to make his own food.

I’m thankful I can stay home with my kids and teach them, even if it means there are books everywhere and my desk is never clean.

Can you see how dirty this is?  It was hard to get a good picture.   I’m thankful that we have a yard for my kids to play in.  I’m thankful they can open this door and close it on their own.  I’m thankful they want to play outside.  I’m thankful for how quiet my house is and how much cleaning I can get done when they are all outside.  I’m thankful that 3 kids will volunteer to clean all these fingerprints and that they will do an adequate job.

I’m thankful that we have laminate in our kitchen, instead of the nasty stained brown carpet when we moved in.  Seriously, carpet in a kitchen???   I’m thankful that my kids can make and eat their own food, even if it leads to drips and spills of all sizes.

I’m thankful that I made pumpkin bread this morning.  It’s healthier and more filling than cereal and I’m thankful the kids will eat it and not complain.  I’m thankful they can eat it outside and I won’t have a mess to clean up.

‘Nuff said.
