31 Days to Loving the World

I’ve had serious writer’s block since Story, which is odd.  You’d think that after being so creatively inspired  I’d be bleeding ideas.  But no.  I did have a couple of ideas today, after trying and trying to figure out how to write about what I want to write about.  And then I saw that this month is Fair Trade Month, which is right up my alley.  Then, I saw this documentary is going to be aired on PBS Oct 1 and 2nd.  All stuff that really interests me.

And then I saw this post, which I thought would be a great and helpful series to follow.  But that led to the original post and the link-up post, and decided, what the heck.  This is probably the motivation I need to just write.  It doesn’t all have to take days of writing and hours of editing, right?  This post also looks interesting in helping me as I kind of refocus on what I really want to write about.

So, for the next 31 days (hopefully), I’ll be writing about loving the people of the world.  I have come to the conviction that when it comes to global issues and different cultures, the church is doing a poor job of encouraging, helping, and inspiring us to know and love the various people of the world.  I know that many NGO’s and people and other organizations come from a place of faith, but in church, on Sunday mornings, in community groups, in Bible studys, these issues – these people – are not talked about unless it is as a mission project that we need to save.  I think that’s a shame.

So I honestly have no idea what the next 30 posts are going to look like.  I have no idea if I’ll have anything new or original to say, honestly.  I decided to join in about 15 minutes ago.  But I read through all 270 topics in the link-up, and none of them covered what I wanted to talk about….so I guess this is some step of faith or obedience or craziness in deciding to make a concerted effort to explore these issues.

I love this idea! I’ve found that learning about the world is great, and if I don’t do it, then I start to think I know everything. (This is the biggest reason why I’m going to move to China.)

I’ve done something similar before- one year during Lent I decided to learn about a country or a city every day. Really interesting stuff.
